School communities have asked for an extension to this year’s creative writing competition for 5-14 year olds in order to set this activity as a holiday project.
What a great idea! The deadline is now 28 April. Get writing on the theme of ‘journey’.
Two examples of Mary’s Seacole’s writing as inspiration:
She uses the adjective ‘inky’ to describe the sky:
“As we arrived a steady down-pour of rain was falling from an inky sky;”
She uses a simile of a ‘giant’s sling’:
“we had to work our way through a tangled network of brushwood, and over broken rocks that seemed to have been piled together as stones for some giant’s sling.”
